We are a collective of clinically practising HCPC Psychologists with experience in medical psychology NHS and private practice services. This expertise spans across spinal cord injury, women’s health/obstetric care, persistent physical symptoms, including chronic pain, cancer, gastrointestinal, ICU and general medicine.

Diagnostic & Clinical Assessment
Detailed clinical formulation integrating biological, psychological, and social factors, not just a diagnostic label
Diagnostic competence using DSM-5-TR and ICD-11, including differential diagnosis and comorbidity analysis
Skilled use and interpretation of psychometric instruments (e.g., validity/effort testing, symptom validity tests, standardised measures of mood, cognition, personality, trauma)
Ability to identify exaggeration, or symptom minimisation using recognised validity indicators
Causation & Analysis
Structured approach to complex causation: distinguishing pre-existing vulnerability, index event contribution, and post-event exacerbating factors
Application of "but for" and material contribution reasoning within a psychological framework
Ability to separate organic/neurological contributions from psychological sequelae (and to flag need for neuropsychological/medical input where relevant)
Consideration of alternative explanations and confounding factors, such as litigation stress, secondary gain, or unrelated life events
Prognosis & Future Impact
Evidence-based prognosis setting, including likely trajectory with and without treatment
Assessment of impact on function, capacity, and quality of life in the context of chronic illness or disability
Consideration of interaction between psychological condition and physical/chronic health conditions (biopsychosocial prognosis)
Recommendations on treatment pathway, likely duration, cost, and prospects of response
Medico-Legal Competence
Familiarity with Civil Procedure Rules (Part 35) and the expert's overriding duty to the court
Experience writing court-compliant reports: structured, referenced, transparent about methodology and limitations
Experience with joint statements, Part 35 questions, and cross-examination
Communication & Independence
Confident, articulate oral communication in conferences with counsel and when giving evidence at trial
Ability to adapt explanations for different audiences, including claimants, solicitors, barristers, and the court
Demonstrable independence and objectivity
