Psychological medicine is our distinctive strength

Our clinical and research experience sits at the intersection of physical and mental health, an area frequently overlooked in mental health medico-legal reporting.

We are a collective of clinically practising HCPC Psychologists with experience in medical psychology (clinical health psychology) in NHS and private practice services. That clinical grounding is what allows our experts to understand complex presentations in context and to give nuanced, evidence-based opinion where physical health, psychological factors and trauma intersect.

All our experts are experienced in the care and detailed attention required throughout often lengthy complex clinical negligence and personal injury cases.

This expertise spans across:

  • Spinal cord injury
  • Women's health and obstetric care
  • Persistent physical symptoms, including chronic pain
  • Cancer
  • Gastrointestinal
  • ICU
  • General medicine

Specialist areas

We support a collective of carefully selected HCPC Psychologists providing Court Reports across a number of additional specialisms, all grounded in psychological medicine. Each instruction is matched with an expert whose clinical knowledge and experience are genuinely relevant to the issues in the case. What skills we can bring on instruction

Dr Arthur Pearce and Dr Hannah Bashforth

The founders

Equitas Psychology was founded, in 2025, by Clinical Psychologists Dr Hannah Bashforth and Dr Arthur Pearce, who share a commitment to providing rigorous, balanced and independent psychological opinion for the UK Civil Courts.

With more than 20 years' combined experience, we established Equitas around the belief that the skills and expertise of a psychological expert should be closely matched to the particular complexities of each case.

After over 15 years of preparing expert reports in complex clinical negligence and personal injury cases we recognised a gap in the market for instructing parties seeking specialist psychological expertise in complex cases involving chronic illness and matters at the interface between psychological and physical health, while also retaining a strong depth of expertise in psychological trauma.

Our experts bring a breadth and depth of clinical expertise accumulated through work in well-respected NHS and private sector services, particularly within psychological medicine. This experience enables them to understand complex clinical presentations in context and to provide nuanced, evidence-based psychological opinion where physical health, psychological factors and trauma may intersect.

Equitas Psychology brings together registered HCPC psychologists with complementary areas of specialist practice, allowing each instruction to be matched with an expert whose clinical knowledge and experience are genuinely relevant to the issues in the case.

Our aim is to provide expert psychological opinion that is clinically informed, forensically rigorous, genuinely independent and appropriately matched to the case.
